Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Our process is easy. First, contact us! We can set up an initial consultation so we can talk about what your needs are. During the consultation, we will determine if seeking speech-language services is appropriate from Not Only Words (NOW) Speech Therapy, LLC. If we decide NOW is the right fit, we will go ahead and schedule our first session. If you or your loved one has not had a recent evaluation in the past six months, we will schedule an evaluation. After the evaluation, we will determine whether therapy is warranted and set up services. Therapists need to meet and evaluate new clients in order to determine what type and frequency of therapy will best meet their needs.

What if I or my loved one was recently evaluated?

If you or your loved one have a recent (six months or less) speech-language evaluation, we will ask you to share that with us when we meet in order to do an informal evaluation to see if the goals/treatment decision continues to meet your or your loved ones needs at this time.

Do you do teletherapy?

Teletherapy is a great option for some clients! However, it is not the best option for all clients.

When might teletherapy not be the best?

For direct therapy with children, Not Only Words Speech Therapy, LLC does not begin therapy virtually. We believe it is vital for children to build genuine rapport with their therapist in person. Once a relationship is built, teletherapy can be considered. For parent/care-giver coaching treatment approaches, teletherapy or hybrid therapy sessions can be great options from the start!

When can teletherapy work best?

For parent/care-giver coaching treatment approaches, teletherapy or hybrid therapy sessions can be great options from the start!

For adults, teletherapy may be appropriate from the start depending on the condition and how comfortable you or your loved one is with technology.

In all cases, how treatment looks is carefully considered and determined by you and your therapist.

Should I or my loved one have a session if I or they have been ill recently?

We kindly ask that if a child has stayed home from school for medical illness or an adult has active symptoms of illness (e.g, fever, nausea, etc.), that you reschedule your appointment for another day. We want to help avoid spreading germs, as well as for you and your loved ones to have adequate rest to help them recover more quickly.

Do you do ABA therapy for Autism?

Not Only Words Speech Therapy, LLC does not offer ABA services or behaviorist focused treatment approaches.

What is your approach to pediatric services?

We believe in child-focused therapy and child-led therapy as much as possible. Communication is not only words, it’s so much more! Whether a child uses spoken words, Signs, communication boards, books, or apps in any combination – the most important thing is that they can communicate what they want with the people they want!

How long does treatment take?

There is no one answer to this question. True, effective therapy of any kind (speech-language therapy, psychotherapy, etc.) should be individualized. The therapy approaches, length of therapy sessions, number of therapy sessions per week/month, and for how long should all be determined in close conversation with you and your therapist based on the unique factors affecting you or your loved one.

What private payment methods do you accept?

We can accept major credit/debit cards or cash. Also, HSA/FSA cards can be accepted since speech therapy would generally be considered a covered expense!

Do you take insurance?

We are currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Care Networks of Michigan, Priority Health/Cigna commercial plans, HAP/ASR commercial plans, HealthSmart commercial plans, AETNA commercial plans, UNC/Optum commercial, and Medicare! Soon, we may be in-network other insurances! Check back for updates!

We may be able to offer support with insurance as a courtesy to our clients as an out-of-network provider. Depending on your plan, speech-language services may be at least in part reimbursable to you for out-of-network providers. In these cases, clients pay Not Only Words Speech Therapy, LLC directly and will be provided a superbill for submission to their insurance company.

NOTE: Some service delivery methods may not be recognized as reimbursable by insurance (e.g., Currently, teletherapy speech-language services are generally not covered by insurance).

Why might it be better to not use insurance?

With insurance, companies can most of your treatment. They decide how long sessions last, how long you can receive treatment and how evaluations must be done, and when they will stop paying. Sometimes, third party payers like insurance can dictate what therapy approaches can be used and how therapy looks. With private pay, we can provide services for as long or as little as we agree you or your loved one can benefit from it. Sometimes this is a few months, other times it is much longer and more intensive. When possible, you should be able to make that decision and NOT a company.

What are your private pay fees?

Our fee schedule is currently available upon request. We offer session-by-session rates and customizable packages for ultimate flexibility!

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the time of service.
